Trained as a commercial artist, Jim has spent a great deal of time teaching himself to paint in a style that feels comfortable. The subjects that he chooses to paint are usually connected to nature in one way or another, although lately he has begun exploring painting figures in oil paints. A couple of years ago, Jim moved to the south and is living in a more urban environment than ever before. Although Jim says it has not influenced his work yet, he expects it will in the future. His choice of subject matter and reason for painting are not to impart any deep philosophical meaning to the viewer. He simply paints, he says, because he has to. And he paints what he likes. www.durtschi.net.
